Psychiatrist, Anvaya Healthcare
Racing heart, tight chest and sudden fear that something is badly wrong, again and again? Anvaya Healthcare provides panic attack treatment in Delhi that starts with a psychiatric check to rule out other causes, then uses CBT and exposure-based therapy to break the fear cycle, with medication only if it is needed. Most people feel a clear change within 8 to 12 weekly sessions. Visit our Dwarka, Vasant Vihar or Gurgaon centres, or start online.

A panic attack is ten minutes of pure terror that seems to come from nowhere. Your heart hammers, your chest locks up, your breath comes in short gulps, and some part of you is convinced this is a heart attack or the start of going mad. Then, twenty or thirty minutes later, it simply fades. Your body is responding the way it would to a speeding truck, except there’s no truck anywhere. Clients tell us it was the worst thing they’ve ever felt, worse than a fracture.
One panic attack is not a diagnosis. Lots of people get one during a bad week, before a big presentation, and never get another. Panic disorder is when attacks keep returning, often with no obvious trigger, and you start planning life around them. You dread the next one, skip the Metro line or the mall where the last one struck, and your world gets smaller month by month. Researchers analysing India’s National Mental Health Survey (NMHS) 2015–16 found 0.5% of adults had had panic disorder, and metro residents and women were more likely to have it. Many also live with generalised anxiety between attacks, so we assess both.
In Delhi households, the first word used is usually ghabrahat. Someone says “ghabrahat ho rahi hai” (I’m feeling panicky), a relative checks their BP on the digital machine from the chemist, and the verdict is low BP or the heat. That explanation can hold for years. Some families try a temple visit or a change of diet before anyone thinks of a psychologist. Once you’ve started changing your route to work to avoid attacks, or you won’t stay home alone in case one comes, it’s time to see someone, in person or through online panic attack treatment.

The good part is that panic disorder responds to treatment better than most conditions we see, and starting doesn’t need a free weekend. Our psychiatrists and psychologists see people at our centres in Dwarka, Vasant Vihar and Gurgaon, and online for anyone across Delhi NCR.

New or severe chest pain? Get checked first.
There's rarely a single cause. Usually there's been chronic stress and anxiety for months first: twelve-hour days, an EMI that's hard to meet, or a parent's hospital visits squeezed around office hours. Sometimes the first attack comes during a calm holiday, weeks after the stressful period has ended. Traumatic experiences, from a road accident on the Ring Road to an assault, can also make the body react to reminders with panic.
Phobias and social anxiety often sit underneath. For some, the first attack hits on stage at a cousin's sangeet, or when a relative asks for the fifth time, "aur beta, shaadi kab?" (so, when's the wedding?). Major life changes play their part too, such as moving to Delhi for a first job, marrying into a joint family or having a baby. It also runs in families, and it often turns up alongside depression, other anxiety problems or heavy drinking.
Some triggers are chemical. Five cups of chai, energy drinks before an exam, a strong vape or a first joint at a farmhouse party can all set off an attack in someone who is prone to them. Hangovers and sudden withdrawal from alcohol or sleeping pills are other common culprits. A few medical problems look almost identical, such as an overactive thyroid, an irregular heartbeat, low blood sugar or asthma, so we always want basic tests done.
Online consultations suit panic treatment surprisingly well, mostly for practical reasons. There's no sitting in Delhi traffic on the way to a clinic, which matters when traffic itself is a trigger, and you can join from your living room, your office or a parked car. Online sessions also make it easier to practise exposures in the exact places where attacks happen.
Still, an in-person assessment at the start has its advantages, especially if your symptoms need a physical examination. If you have chest pain, fainting or palpitations that haven't been checked, a medical evaluation is necessary before we treat it as panic, and our psychiatrist will tell you which tests to get. Some people simply feel safer starting face to face, and that's a perfectly good reason.
Whichever you pick, what you say in sessions with Anvaya Healthcare stays private. Many people do the assessment in person and continue therapy and follow-ups online, which keeps treatment going during travel or exam season.
When people across Delhi pick Anvaya Healthcare for panic treatment, it’s usually for plain, practical reasons.

A panic attack climbs fast, is worst within about ten minutes and usually ends within half an hour, with a racing heart and sheer fear. If chest pain is new, severe or comes with exertion, get it checked at a hospital first, since heart problems can look similar.
Yes. With CBT, medication or both, most people get much better, and plenty stop having attacks altogether. Even people who have had attacks for years usually respond well.
Yes. It's usually where we start. CBT explains what your body is doing during an attack and helps you stop avoiding the places that set it off.
Most people feel a clear change within 8 to 12 weekly sessions, each 45 to 60 minutes long. If medication is prescribed, it usually continues for 6 to 12 months after you feel better.
No. Many people recover with CBT alone. We consider it when attacks come several times a week, or when depression has crept in as well. If you are already on medication, never stop it suddenly without speaking to your psychiatrist.
Yes. Most people do just as well online, and you can practise exposures out in the real world with your psychologist on the call. Some people start online and switch to in-person sessions later, or the other way round.
Call us, or simply book on our website. Choose an online session or a visit to Dwarka, Vasant Vihar or Gurgaon, and we'll arrange your first assessment.
