If your child has shown persistent changes in behaviour, mood, sleep, school performance, or social engagement over a few weeks or more, and these are affecting daily life, an assessment is worthwhile. You don’t need to be certain something is wrong — a child psychologist can help you understand whether what you’re seeing needs support or is within the normal range for your child’s age. Many parents wait far longer than they need to, out of worry about over-reacting; an assessment can be as reassuring as it is clarifying.
Yes. Research supports online delivery of child psychology interventions, particularly parent management training, CBT for older children, and parent guidance. For very young children, some play-based work is enhanced by in-person sessions, and our team will advise clearly where that applies rather than pretending everything works equally well online.
Yes — and for younger children especially, parent involvement is often central to the treatment rather than optional. Many child psychology interventions work primarily through equipping parents with specific strategies, alongside direct work with the child. Online sessions make it easier for both parents to attend, even when their schedules differ.
This varies by the child’s age and difficulty. Focused concerns may be addressed in 8 to 12 sessions; more complex developmental or emotional difficulties require longer support. Progress is reviewed regularly and the plan adjusted accordingly, rather than following a fixed number decided in advance.
Yes — online consultations are available for families anywhere in India, including all of Mumbai. Contact us to book an initial assessment, and the team will match your child with the right specialist for their needs.

A child who’s anxious doesn’t say “I’m anxious”,they refuse school, or cling, or have stomach aches every morning. A child who’s depressed doesn’t describe low mood — they become irritable, withdrawn, or lose interest in things they used to love. This is why child psychology is a specialised field: understanding what a child is communicating through behaviour, at each stage of development, is a distinct clinical skill that general counselling doesn’t provide.
A child psychologist is trained specifically in the mental, emotional, and developmental health of children and adolescents. A child psychologist understands developmental milestones, how conditions like ADHD and autism present differently at different ages, how to assess a child who can’t articulate their internal experience, and how to work with the family as a whole rather than the child in isolation. Getting this specialisation right matters — a technique that works for a 12-year-old may be completely ineffective for a 5-year-old, even when the presenting concern looks similar.
The need in India is substantial. The National Mental Health Survey found mental health disorders in around 7.3% of Indian adolescents aged 13 to 17, which translates to close to 50 million children and adolescents across the country living with a mental health concern. The majority never receive support — partly due to limited access to child specialists, and partly due to a persistent belief that children’s difficulties are just phases they’ll grow out of. Some are. Many aren’t, and the ones that aren’t tend to become harder to address the longer they’re left.
For Mumbai families, accessing a qualified child psychologist has traditionally meant navigating the city to a clinic, often repeatedly over months — pulling a child out of school, one or both parents taking time off work, and enduring a commute that a young child may find distressing. Online consultation removes those barriers.
Concerns Our Online Child Psychologists Work With
Anxiety and depression — children and adolescents experience both, often presenting as school refusal, irritability, physical complaints, or withdrawal rather than the way these conditions look in adults. In Mumbai, academic and competitive pressure is a significant driver of anxiety in school-going children, and early support prevents these difficulties from shaping how a child sees themselves for years to come.
ADHD and behavioural concerns — inattention, impulsivity, hyperactivity, and the behavioural and emotional difficulties that frequently accompany them. Child psychology addresses both the child’s skills and the family’s strategies for managing the behaviour, rather than treating the child as the sole focus of the problem.
Autism spectrum disorder — assessment, support with social communication and emotional regulation, and guidance for families navigating an autism diagnosis. A child psychologist forms part of the multidisciplinary support that autism requires.
Learning difficulties — dyslexia, dyscalculia, and other specific learning disorders that affect academic performance and, often, a child’s confidence and mental health. Early identification and support make a substantial difference to long-term outcomes.
Parenting challenges — sometimes the most effective intervention isn’t with the child directly but with how the family responds. Parent guidance and support is a core part of child psychology, not an afterthought.
Emotional and social development — difficulties with friendships, emotional regulation, self-esteem, and the social skills that underpin a child’s wellbeing at school and at home.
Signs Your Child May Need a Child Psychologist
If several of these have been present for a few weeks or more, and are affecting the child’s daily life at home or school, an assessment with a child psychologist is worth arranging rather than waiting to see if things settle. Many Mumbai parents delay this step out of a hope that the child will simply grow out of it — and while some do, the ones who need support benefit significantly from getting it early rather than late.
How Online Child Psychology Consultations Work at Anvaya Healthcare?
Booking — contact our team directly, and we’ll match your child with the appropriate child psychologist based on what you describe.
Parent consultation and developmental history — the process usually begins with the parents, not the child. A detailed developmental history — milestones, early years, what’s been noticed, what school has reported, and what the family has already tried — provides the foundation. Parents know their child better than anyone, and this conversation is clinically essential.
Child psychological assessment — the child is then assessed in an age-appropriate way. For younger children, this happens largely through play and observation — watching how the child engages, what they gravitate toward, and what their play reveals about their emotional world. For older children, through age-appropriate conversation and structured tasks. The assessment builds a clear picture of what’s happening and why, distinguishing between what needs treatment and what’s within the normal range for the child’s stage.
Personalised treatment planning — a plan built specifically around this child: their age, their difficulty, their family circumstances, and what approach is most likely to help. No generic programme applied uniformly.
Therapy sessions and follow-ups — regular online sessions with the child, the parents, or both, depending on the age and presentation. Consistent follow-up allows progress to be tracked and the plan adjusted over time. All of this is coordinated by the Anvaya Healthcare team based at Dwarka, Vasant Vihar, and Gurugram, delivered online to Mumbai families.
Therapies Offered by Our Online Child Psychologists
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) — adapted for children, CBT helps a child understand the link between thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, and builds practical tools for managing anxiety, low mood, and difficult emotions. The techniques and language are adjusted to suit the child’s developmental stage — what’s explained through diagrams and games for a 7-year-old is discussed more directly with a 14-year-old.
Play therapy — for younger children, play is the natural medium for processing emotions and experiences they can’t yet put into words. Play therapy uses this to help children work through difficulties in a way that talking directly cannot achieve at their age. A child who cannot describe what’s frightening them may show it through the stories they build in play.
Behaviour therapy — structured approaches for changing specific behaviour patterns, particularly effective for ADHD-related behaviour, defiance, and difficulties with routines and transitions. The focus is on building the behaviour you want rather than only correcting the behaviour you don’t.
Parent management training — one of the most evidence-supported interventions in child psychology, particularly for behavioural difficulties. Parents learn specific techniques for responding to their child’s behaviour in ways that reduce difficulty and build cooperation. For many families, this is the single most useful part of the work.
Art therapy — using creative expression to help children process emotions and experiences, particularly useful for children who find talking difficult or who have been through something distressing.
Social skills training — structured work on the social and communication skills that underpin friendships and school life, especially valuable for children with autism, ADHD, or social anxiety.
Benefits of Choosing an Online Child Psychologist in Mumbai
Why Choose Anvaya Healthcare?
Our team brings together child psychologists and child psychiatrists — which matters, because children’s difficulties often span the psychological, developmental, and sometimes medical. A child with ADHD may need behavioural work and, in some cases, psychiatric input; a child with anxiety may need therapy alone. Having both under one roof means the child gets the right combination without being passed between disconnected providers who don’t share information or coordinate their approach.
Our child psychologists are trained at India’s leading institutions, and treatment is evidence-based rather than improvised. Sessions are conducted on a secure, confidential platform designed to be accessible for families and engaging for children.
For Mumbai families comparing options, government child mental health services — while important — are typically constrained by long waiting times and limited session time, which makes the sustained, consistent work that child psychology requires difficult to deliver. Anvaya Healthcare offers consistent access to the same psychologist over time, with adequate session length and ongoing progress monitoring.
Online consultations start from ₹1,500 per session, with pricing varying by the specialist’s experience and seniority. In-person care at our Dwarka, Vasant Vihar, and Gurugram centres remains available where clinically appropriate.
